Betty Lou Benson
Betty Lou has a background in human services, developmental disabilities, managing social service & non-profit organizations and FASD, as well as policy governance. BL’s career in Human Services has spanned 34 years, with a focus on FASD for the past 10 years with FASD Central. She served on the Premier’s Counsel on the Status of Persons with Disabilities in Alberta from 2013 – 2017. Betty Lou has a strong passion to advocate for the rights and freedoms of Canadians who have been forgotten and lost in our systems set to serve and support. Residing in Sylvan Lake, Alberta, Betty Lou is a mom to 2 adult children and has recently become a grandmother to a beautiful baby boy.

Chris has lived in the West Country for 19 years and feels very privileged to be a part of FASD Central. She has worked with diverse populations in the human service and health care fields for over 10 years and is very passionate about learning from and advocating for people with FASD and those who love and support them. Chris is passionate about connecting with broad circles and networks to talk about how we can all benefit from learning and sharing together and to create spaces in our communities that are welcoming, inclusive, and safe for everyone.

Allyssa joined FASD Central in May of 2018 and is a registered Social Worker. She has an insatiable appetite for continuous learning and opportunities for personal growth. Allyssa has siblings affected by FASD, which drives her passion for serving the FASD community, seeking leading knowledge and sharing her learning with her community.

Meghan joined FASD Central in 2017 and is a registered Social Worker. She has an extensive background of supporting individuals involved with the corrections system. Meghan passionately believes that past choices don’t define a person and that everyone deserves an opportunity to grow and heal. Meghan is honoured to be part of the healing journey for people involved in the criminal justice system by helping them to find their strength and repair their lives.

Vicki has worked with FASD Central since January of 2014 in a variety of roles, settling into the Clinic Coordinator position in April 2018. She has a B.A. in Psychology from the University of Calgary and her work experience includes outreach, coaching, group facilitation, and multiple coordination positions. Vicki’s passion is people; building relationships, creating connections, and inviting people to smile – or even laugh – as much as possible. She enjoys running, dabbles in yoga, and finds a great deal of peace in finishing a Sudoku puzzle without cheating.
